The Association for Performance Art in Berlin APAB e.V. invites you to its first conference on the subject of Curating as an Artistic Practice. The conference takes place at the Artist’s Residency GlogauAir in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
How and why is curating an ARTISTIC practice?
During these two days numerous international performance artists who consider curation a vital part of their artistic practice will shed different lights on the practice they share in the forms of lectures, performances, discussions, documentation and various hybrid formats. The conference is open to all interested parties.

Performers and visitors alike become part of the work, by occupying and experiencing the space and the actions held within the space of the artplatform CELL63 on the weekend of  May 23rd and 24th .

International artists create a two-day high-energy event with an international context by presenting their work in an hourly schedule throughout the weekend.

The power of momentary impulses and the power of intervention with space and time, and the encompassing mix of genre and disciplines create the action weekend to become an unforeseeable overall ‘Gesamtbild’ of Performances where the threshold of categories merges. Material and conceptual structures are absent and the viewers meet with their own interpretative freedom.

The dynamics of actions and their reception by the viewers change from Saturday to Sunday thus introducing the diversity of art works and their tangibility, and allowing indeterminism to be an original factor of live experiences both recognizable by the visitors and the artists themselves.

PERFORMANCES DAY I

OUROBOROS –

Durational Performance

Artist: Sikarnt Skoolisariyaporn / Photo Credit: Martin O’Brian TIME: 15:00

I started collecting found objects a few years back, I was fascinated by how they can capture memory of time passed, like a forgotten fossil of our era. Being deserted on streets, an object leaps its capitalistic dimension, it loses its status as commodity – to be sold, bought, used and then resold again – and become a peripheral being, on the edge between being something and nothing, being there and not there. If archaeology is a practice that harvests lost time of the past from its remnants, then what I am interested in doing might be called a futurist’s archaeology, to capture the time lost in our amnesiac present.

REMANI

Live Performance

TIME: 17:00

Anniken puts herself in a situation of facing a redoing of past undoings. It becomes a monumental inquiry observed by the voluntary public facility and the body will facilitate a hunting requestor.
Through constructed space, time and materials, the body will be undergoing the re-visitation of objects and the unknown of present moment.

Akin to outter-space exploration, the individual finds himself alien in a modern world. Saturated by synthetic stimulation, surroundings change in strange and unnatural directions.

Through sensory experiments in multi-media performance and installation, the evening program alieNation, examines the spirit and psyche of the individual, in a context beyond dark matter. International artists of various backgrounds present works that utilize the metaphor of space and frontier to examine humanity (and otherwise) in present society.

‘Movement is an animalistic and intellectual act. A muscular disposal of thought. As if, indeed, reasoning would have cells; and it does.”
Gonçalo M. Tavares – Brief Notes on Connections
Eternal Cave is a sonic and scenic creation about movement, perception and animism, where vibration is the intangible source of every organism reaction.
This piece amplifies physical conflicts and resonant organic bodies which can’t be fixed in space.

VIVIANA DRUGA and DANILO ANDRES
The 22+1 tarot will be used in the performance as a guiding tool for the performative action of the dancer on the stage and its interaction with the public. The images used for divination are part of the 22+1 re-enacting the Major Arcanas of the Tarot du Marseille with real people and costumes.
The Tarot as a divination system will be used for revelation only concerning the present. The artist does not believe in the potentiality of the future. There is no future in a performance the same as the blood is real. The Tarot session invites the audience to make the a performative travel through different textures, energies, characters and temperaments, in correspondence with Major Arcana Symbolism.
