Come and celebrate with us the Opening of the 5th and last edition of the Month of Performance Art-Berlin in the heart of Kreuzberg’s May Day celebrations and enjoy its twists and turns!
This invitation is also an Open call, as this is a performance open stage. The artists and makers of this MPA-B 5th edition will show previews, trailers or presentation of their programme for the upcoming month. Any interested performance artist can also show an original performance, and decide to do so on the spot!
Remember that the event is happening in a park, there will be NO TECH available, no electricity, no running water, etc. Bring anything you need with you. Also, we are asking artists to present 10 minutes maximum performances. We are inviting everybody to bring food and drinks to share, to hangout and meet each other. The chosen spot is situated in Görlitzer park, in the middle of the basin. There is an enclave with remaining walls and railing around them on the Southern side of this basin. We’ll be there with a table and some balloons.
Afterwards, everybody is invited for the traditional Süpper Clüb in Grüntaler9 (see information on project description at the bottom of this email)

THE APOKATASTASIS (16:00 – 16:30)
Because of the recent death of Judith Malina on April 10th, 2015, in our estimation one of the most influential artists and political activists of our times, one of our most important mentors and inspirations, and because our theme for this years mpa-b anthology is the question of repertoire, we will re-enact a sequence from The Living Theatre created in the 1960’s for the revolutionary production “Paradise Now,” feeling strongly the necessity to perform this work again now to honor the great gifts that Judith Malina has given to so many of us, and to the world of pacifist political art.
EVERY FLAG IS A BORDER – WHITE COLOR GUARD (18:30 – 19:00)
Today flight and displacement has become a reality for masses of people, a situation that has not existed on such a scale since the two world wars.
Governments and politics’ persistent overlooking of the subject is as disgraceful as it is truly inhumane. Inspired by a banner at a refugee demo in Berlin with the statement: “Every Flag Is a Border, and Borders Kill,” the Performunion tries on the masks of “the other,” not of the refugees, but instead of those in power, the arrogant principles of hierarchy and force. In strict military discipline, the performers march slowly on a questionable mission as an intervening force dressed in white. They carry white flags. Flags represent nations. White flags stand for capitulation, but also for the abolition of borders. And for peace.
