2014 WELCOME

WE ARE THE MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART–BERLIN AND THIS IS OUR 4TH EDITION RUNNING FROM MAY 1-31, 2014

We are a collaborative platform dedicated to supporting, promoting and intersecting Berlin’s independent, contemporary and experimental performance art scene.

We are an alliance of performance art makers (the CO-LABOURER) who, in May, will present a wide-range of curatorial initiatives and art works, which have been weaved together into this month-long programme.

MPA-B 2014 has been built from the ground up. We have all shared basic administrative and production tasks to sustain the overall
MPA–B framework, as well as developing projects reflecting our individual approaches to performance art making.

MPA–B 2014 should be seen as an aggregate framework, a “whole formed by combining several separate elements” or “a material or structure formed from a mass of fragments or particles loosely compacted together”, and as a research project into new models and strategies for the making and presentation of independent performance art works.

MPA–B is a non-funded initiative.

Our symbol this year is the engine of a motorcycle in the process of being assembled.

MPA-B_poster_2014_07.indd“There’s no friendly motorcycle mechanic on the other side of those rocks and I’m wondering if we’re ready for this. If anything goes wrong now we’re in real trouble. I check the engine temperature with my hand. It’s reassuringly cool. I put in the clutch and let it coast for a second in order to hear it idling. Something sounds funny and I do it again. It takes a while to figure out that it’s not the engine at all. There’s an echo from the bluff ahead that lingers after the throttle is closed. Funny.”  Extract from “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values” (1974) by Robert M. Pirsig
