VOYEURS /// I AM AN OASIS
SITE SPECIFIC INTERVENTION
Out of a forgotten public space, an ephemeral oasis rises again. Natacha Mankowski’s intervention takes on the aspect of a subtle urban rejuvenation project; transforming the disused fountain at the center of the Leopoldplatz into what it once was: an urban oasis for the residents and visitors, a social meeting point. I AM AN OASIS calls out to the pedestrians, taking them from the undefined crowd, to be part of a public realm.
In VOYEURS, performers don’t act directly in front of the public. They are entrapped within the exhibiting apparatus, a closed white cube of 8m³ (2m by 2m by 2m) from which spectators are excluded. And if they are not inside the cube, they are forced outside of it. They can surround it, move around it, sit next to it, stand far from it, look at it, come closer and maybe peep in it – or do none of the above. It is their choice.
For MPA-B 2014, through a series of performances and performative interventions set in the public space, VOYEURS explores the accidental interactions that can arise from the accidental encounter between the work and its possible audience; thus focusing on the public as the – or a – performer and the idea of the audience as a canvas for action and reaction.

NOT ONLY // NIE TYLKO
Not Only through body, space or sound. A performance series of Polish artists curated by Agnieszka Szablikowska from Raczej Gallery in Poznan – the only place in Poland completely dedicated to performance art. According to the idea behind this space, Not Only will juxtapose diversified artistic approaches to performance art.
The performances by Anna Kalwajtys deal with very strong emotions and potentially evoke them among the participants, creating moments of comprehension between observer and performer. Łukasz Trusewicz is intrigued by places where meaning has been changed by devastating effects of humans, he refers in his actions to historical memory inherent in specific spaces. Hubert Wińczyk as a musician and intermedia artist is experimenting by using different sources of sounds, and Paweł Korbus uses his scenic experience as an actor and choreographer and attempts to provoke the participants by physical perceptions of his actions.
