FOLD
Emma Dixon

I am an interdisciplinary artist currently living and working in London and Berlin. My work is mainly, but not exclusively, performance art. I also work with photography, video, installation and mark-making, but generally in conjunction with performance. I try to visualise or capture time within my practice, using actions and materials that will leave traces. The piece I am proposing consists of myself and a large sheet of paper the same size as the width of the performance space.

During the action I will be folding and unfolding the paper. My body, space, object and time will have equal importance during the performances. My actions will be determined by the task in hand. Time will be visually represented by the cresses in the paper, as the piece progresses the paper will begin to tear and disintegrate, leaving nothing. I have previously performed this piece in London. I want to both magnify and simplify this work in a new space to a new audience.

TRACING GRAVITY
Marisa Benjamim

Tracing gravity is a project from Marisa Benjamim based on the idea of verticality and how it affects artificial and natural settings.  Several areas of thinking such as architecture, religion, poetry, agriculture or cartography are very much aware of the benefits of verticality in relation to a horizontal thinking. While the classical religious architecture used verticality to draw our believes towards the even and God, poetry investigates the vertical phenomena between the underneath and the above of a reader’s receptivity. For Benjamim it is interesting to note that in nature, vegetation is able to grow upwards “contradicting” gravity through phototropic or gravitropic systems; introducing in this present work the fascination for light and the direction to it. Tracing gravity aim to reflect by a sensitive mode on a variety of concepts related to verticality, attempting, through an artistic practice, to create an intimate relation with the natural and the laws that directs to it.

INCAGED
Viviana Druga

The highly technological intermediated high speed reality and the post-religious effects of thousands of years of self-punishment is placing us behind a veil, a thick, promiscuous velvet that separates us from the subconscious deep waters of accessing universal knowledge. Its tricky and misleadingly safe! The security and the safety are what we have to get unused to. But the deep subconscious waters are still dragging us down and making us lose control over material realities and patterns of knowledge.

The performative act by Viviana Druga is going to re-enact the self-captivity, pursuing the transformative effect of indulging into and escaping a self-made cage-prison. A savageness is pursued – the same ancestral conscience of belonging to the same Natural Landscape as all the animals – a respect for nature and its laws for the only purpose of deconstructing the Western superiority over animals.
