“Crossing Context” is curated by the Danish artist Camilla Graff Junior and is based in the neighborhood of Neukölln. The program examines the notion of “interventions through artistic research” and will run from 2013 until 2015, finalizing in a symposium. The 2013 edition presents a series of eleven works by artists and activists from Denmark and France; Allio – Weber, Boris Azemar, Bailly Blo and Layla Torres Mollerup, CestBeauLePouvoir, Christine Dilmi, Giraff Graff, Magda Mrowiec, Sara Hamming and Tine Byrdal, Ellen Vestergaard Friis, and Vinyl Horror and Terror. A recurrent theme in this year’s edition is “Identity” and “gender”, and the program opens with a six-day site-specific workshop investigating the public space of Neukölln from a gender-perspective. Produced by Giraff Graff in co-production with Kunstverein Neukölln / kunstraum t27 Supported by Danish Arts Council and the Fachbereich Kultur, Bezirksamt Neukölln – Dezentrale Kulturarbeit. GENDER AND THE CITY
CestBeauLePouvoir (FR)

Urban-designer Pascale Lapalud and sociologist Chris Blache take their stating point from the fact that the city is, for the most part, male created and male occupied. During a six-day workshop they will invite all interested to go out and investigate the public space of Neukölln from a gender –
perspective. Parallels will be drawn to the 20th arrondissement in Paris, where a workshop took place in the end of February. The aim is to look at the similarities and differences between the two neighborhoods, share experiences and both collectively and individually, introduce a change by inventing new strategies for female players within the space of the city.

FIL CONDUCTEUR
Christine Dilmi (FR)

Christine Dilmi’s artistic practice is shaped by traveling, walking and sewing. Over the course of 96 hours she will work out of a tent at Richardplatz and, through public participation and dialogue, develop a “connecting thread.” Rooted in a desire to communicate with people in her surroundings as a non-German speaker, she will use three non-verbal modes of interaction in this piece: yoga, her clown nose and sewing material. The public is invited to join her at all times within the 96 hours time-span.

PictureOSWALDO’S BAR
Bailly Blo and Layla Torres Mollerup (DK)

Inspired by Brazilian poet Oswald de Andrade’s “Anthropophagite Manifesto,” OSWALDO’S BAR is based upon the idea that the best way to embrace the unknown is by ingesting it. The two performers, a white Brazilian Indian woman and a black African man, mix drinks from ingredients such as race, gender and religion. The audience is invited to request a personal cocktail from which an examination of prejudices and pre-established ideas take place.

PRIM’HOLSTEIN + FIN DE L’ORIGINE DU MONDE
Allio-Weber (FR)
Video Installation in English

PRIM’HOLSTEIN and FIN DE L’ORIGINE DU MONDE by Eléonore Weber and Patricia Allio rely on the description of a performance that could not take place. A text is projected in its place that brings the audience into silent questioning. The first piece addresses the role of animals in our lives; the second deals with the naturalist-essentialist approach to the feminine.

PictureSIX SAINTS: TYCHO BRAHE and SIX SAINTS: H.C.ØRSTED
Ellen Vestergaard Friis (DK)
Performance in English

SIX SAINTS is a series of performances that investigate various concepts of time. It is an artistic analysis of six well-known Danish scientists whose work deal with light, energy and time. The research also touches on other topics common to both physics and the performing arts: documentation, observation and ownership. The last of the series, “Tycho Brahe and H.C. Ørsted”, presents two works simultaneously; a work that happens only in space and another that happens only in time.
