ONE-WEEK PERFORMANCE ART LABORATORY AT GLOGAUAIR (FROM MAY 21ST TO MAY 26THT)

Picture(Click image to enlarge)GlogauAIR proposal for this week-long Art Laboratory is to work with physical and conceptual LIMITATIONs. By progressively limiting the tools and elements that Performance Art uses, the participants will have to develop and adapt new strengths and strategies in the final presentation of their work. By utilising and working at the beginning of the workshop with objects, words, in groups, in a large space and with different body parts, the final performance will be stripped down of all these tools and taken back to an object-less, word-less, space-less and solo presentation.

GENERAL INFO:
– Max. 6 participants.
– Artists from all fields interested in a cooperative experience and open to work together in a basis of dialogue and exchange.
– The participants will be selected together with the organisers of MPA.
– The organisers’ will be mediating the collaboration and establishing basic tools for the group work. There will also be a person with a camera filming parts of the work, and we might install a projector on the window, for the public to see live what is happening inside the building.
– We leave the possibility for a public presentation depending on the development of the work. This would only be improvised and organized by the participants. Our aim is to avoid the pressure that a public presentation can produce on the cooperative work, having in consideration that in the month of May there will be many performance venues and open stages in Berlin.

For registration and further information please email: info@glogauair.net

ABOUT GLOGAUAIR

Nowadays taking part in an Artist in Residence Programme supposes a desired stage for an artist career as it allows them to put their work in a global context. This model was born at the beginning of the XXth century and has grown widely during the last years with the globalization expansion, up to become essential for the international art market. In a moment where the art’s value gives priority to the process more than the final work, the Artist in Residence Programmes have turned into temples of works in progress and multiculturalism. In GlogauAIR artists from diverse social and geographical backgrounds find a place to develop their works in a dynamic environment of coexistence, exchange of ideas and internationalization. At the same time they get to know a new culture and landscape in Berlin, getting influences from de city, which has became a pioneer place for contemporary culture. The non profit organization GlogauAIR was founded by the Spanish artist Chema Alvargonzález in 2006 with the intention to create a meeting point between artists from all disciplines to work in collaboration, expanding their practice in terms of materials, formats and style. The processes are shown every three months in an open studios exhibition where the public can see the works of the resident artists in a relaxed and festive event.

PEOPLE INTRANSIT

Picture(click image to enlarge)People InTransit takes its inspiration from train and bus stations and airports, the behaviour of individuals and the movement of people through them. We use the idea of these spaces as a metaphor for life in Modern London, with people coming and going, and some staying longer than others. Although you hear many languages spoken by the dancers and part of the soundscape, the voices say little of importance. To create the movement language we have used Makaton – a language programme using signs and symbols to help people communicate, so we invite you to listen to the dancers bodies

MORE ABOUT PEOPLE IN TRANSIT

Choreographed by Mari Frogner, People InTransit was created for the Royal Borough of Chelsea and Kensington’s InTransit Festival 2011. It was commisioned as part of the event – Common sounds: touching the void, which was produced by fruit-for-the-apocalypse and performed 15-18th July 2011 at the Commonwealth institute.

ABOUT AGORA

AGORA is a platform that empowers individuals through multi-disciplinary collaborative creation, a gathering space of professionals, driven by the urge to explore new ways of interaction and collaboration in today’s context. We are dedicated on creating intelligent forms of producing, working and living – artistically, socially and economically. As an airport of ideas; making bridges, connecting talented and engaged people. Agora is also an incubator; developing and supporting artistic, social, environmental and economical projects. Much of our space healthily remains in constant flux. Every few days the tables and walls shift to incorporate a new art exhibition, workshop, lecture, performance, yoga class, organic food fair, film screenings and all sorts of cultural projects.
Since our founding in June 2011 we have quickly gathered a community made up of members from over 30 nationalities. Like our resilient home base of Berlin we view the world’s differences and its diversity as powering the potential for constructive growth and advancement.

LIVE CONFESSION WITH KALLE VON KARL

Picture(Click image to enlarge)Live Confession is a conversational game made up of words and exchanges based on the printed journal Drawing Room Confessions, which is inspired by the parlour game played by Marcel Proust, the Surrealists and others in the late nineteenth century. The aim of the game is to reveal the tastes, aspirations and personalities of the player through words and exchanges, rather than through artwork. MPA-B artist KALLE VON KARL (check his work at Kreuzberg Pavillon on May 10th) will be guided through the 6 unrehearsed and informal stages of the game in front of a live audience in the relaxed setting of a bar. Drawing out an overall feeling of the way the artist thinks, Live Confession is a genuine and accessible introduction to the creative minds behind the art. The event is a cross between a performance and an interview. It aims to allow people to get to know the artists taking part in the festival in a much more informal environment. As the event is unrehearsed and follows the same basic structure of 6 stages of a game that will be conducted by a host, everything is left to unfold on the night. Additionally there will be no photography or filming at the event in order to maintain the intimacy and immediacy of the evening. The only documentation or lasting record will be an online type-up of the final Proust Questionnaire answers.

The six stages are as follows:
1. The Egoist: a conversation between the player and an individual selected by the player.
2. The Blind Man: a conversation between the player and an individual unknown to the player, and whose interests are not directly in art.
3. Two to Tango: a conversation between the player and someone selected by the host.
4. Ekphrasis: 30seconds to create a worded representation of a visual representation.
5. Timeline: defining moments of the artist’s life, including the art & culture experiences, and historical events, that have defined how he or she thinks and lives.
6. La Madeleine: a fixed questionnaire based on the original Proust Questionnaire.

PULLING STRINGS

UNTITLED (IN THE CORNER)

Picture(click image to enlarge)Questioning the different meanings that the expression “stand in the corner” may underline, the artist investigates the relationship between body, space, marginality and impulse to adaptation. Manuela Macco is a multidisciplinary artist based in Turin (Italy) who primarily uses the medium of performance. Her actions are never separated as she pursues a deep listening of her body and its messages. She conceives the body as an instrument of self-knowledge and as a meeting point between the self and the world.

ABOUT ATELIER SOLDINA

A little store-front studio with limited exhibition space of 20 qm and with a large window facing the street was established 2007 April and is running by artist Elena Ilina (painting, installation, photography, video). The gallery is too young to define a guidline and is not a home for single statements. It positions itself geographically and philosophically as a non-profit showcase, a minimal white-cube for the contemporary artwork slightly outside the center of the city and of the art-market. The energy of the programme is derived from the constant shifts in style, provenance and engagements of artists. It aims to function as a think tank to make contemporary art a daily experience for all.

UNTITLED – Luzie Hanna Karolina Meyer
An experiment of a dual approach to not being, the topic of a song, a hallucination, an enquiry into the suburbs of reason and  nature of these sounds produced by my throat and pounding heart, a formation of soundclouds, a normal evening of progressive entertainment, an abnormal evening of unconditional love and the gasping of air and the holding of breath and my offer of endearment to you and your confirmation if thou whilst for the sake of solidarity to nonsense, conceptualism and institutional production of truth and beauty and everything else in question.

IN OUT WITHIN THE LAND OF MINE – Haitham Assem
On the verge of sanity lies the story
A story defined by the conflicting poles of humanity

Gratitude for the past, which gave birth to the present
A present of a playing soul on hidden grounds.

In & out ,,, within & without ,,, in without out ,,, out with in ,,, in the land ,,,
get out the land ,,, stay within my land ,,, where is the land ?! ,,,
the land of mine ,,, and the in & out ?!! ,,, followed by within.
Aha, I do not understand.

Nº5 – Florens Heydwolff, Elise Ose & Maria Mushtrieva
N°5: Ist es eine Hausnummer? Ist es eine Fortsetzung der Elemente? Ein Spiel? Oder doch nur ein Bauchgefühl? Was sich hinter dieser Zahl verbirgt werden wir herausfinden

simulacrum / image / phantasmagoria. Roca Schajuas
As an experiment I will try to trace body techniques in the representation of hysteria, in doing so I will be approaching the role model in a mimetical way, different layers of this image will be decoded by the image consumer, the located staging strategies will get interpreted and copied on their own, living and present body, the image will be doubled. Counteractions to this method will be possible, the simulacrum will become a distorted one.

—————————————–BREAK————————————————–

Doors re-open at around 04:15am for this final performance that will start at 04:48am

THE WILD YEARS ARE OVER – Marc Carrera
Duration: 25 min
Where are the wild times gone? The self is the new machine. There’s no better place like home, actually. The performance starts at 4:48 AM sharp. Please be punctual.
