I like to hear the radio. I like to hear the radio accompanied by somebody. I like to hear the radio accompanied by somebody outdoors. I like public spaces with radio, its conversations, listeners who phone in, the inexperienced guests and wondering what the presenter looks like. EMISIONES CACATÚA (Cockatoo Emissions)  is a performance as well as a radio broadcast. It´s part of the European project Special Issue, launched by Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers de Paris with the support of the European Union, to promote discourse, its practice and the orality within the context of performance art.

HUNGER (20:00 dur. 20 min)
Irina Makarova
www.irina-makarova.com

Civility and social class can all be identified by the jobs we have, and the clothes we wear. People like to have control and to attempt to transcend self control, proving that evolution has occurred and we have evolved more than others. However the ubiquitous feeling hunger, be it physical or social, will strip anyone clean of the glamorous facade back into the rudimentary being we all came from. Take away the simple comforts, the basics: food, warmth, social acceptance and we becoming nothing more than animals. The performance is a study of how quickly a person can spin out of control once their pedestal of comforts is removed from underneath them

ABOUT TATWERK

TATWERK is a young/old spot in Kreuzkölln with a theatre tradition. For four years Tatwerk has been a place for theatre research on Artaud, Grotowski, Performance and Experimental Theatre. Within the global concept of Integral Theatre, Tatwerk has been searching for possibilities to unify different approaches of theatricality. Since March 2012 Tatwerk is taking on a new direction. In order to become a more permeable space for workshops, courses, encounters and exchanges it combines three main fields: Theatre, Dance & Performance. Possible topics to be developed in this project are Body, Action – political, artistic, social or experimental- and Present.

[ MPA-B ϟ CONCEPTUAL ] DIRECT ACTION 2012

Picture(Click image to enlarge)DIRECT ACTION 2012  is a non curated performance festival taking place from May 18th-20th at the Abteilung Für Alles Andere in Berlin-Mitte, during the second edition of the Month of Performance Art – Berlin / May 2012.

Running for its third year, in close cooperation with the Institut Für Alles Mögliche, [ DA12 ] will feature a wide range of performances and experimentations from international artists and students from the Academy of Visual Arts in Liepzig. The festival topic this year focuses on text and performance and it’s a first tryout to bring artists together in the frame of non-expressive and non-dramatic actions, and to highlight artistic practices in relation to writing, as well as to the act of writing in general. Over the course of three days [ DA12 ] will create an open and international platform for multi-layered actions, discussions, and networking in this field, with the idea of providing a platform for people working with different approaches and practices in the realm of performance, and to enable them to show their own positions, to inspire and to instigate a vivid and direct interaction, The festival is explicitly oriented towards lesser known or unknown performance artists, with the scope of providing them with an opportunity to make experiments and show their work at a festival. In addition, artists already working in the field of performance and text have been invited in order to build a broader range of different positions and practices within the festival theme, and to incite a continuous discussion on contemporary Performance Art. [ DA ] also promotes the concept of “work-in-progress”, giving the participants an opportunity to discuss and develop their work during the festival, or even to create new work without the pressure to finish projects. [ DA ] took place for the first time in September 2010 at the Institut Für alles Mögliche in Berlin with 26 participating artists from seven different countries. In May 2011 the festival was presented in the frame of the first edition of the Month of Performance Art – Berlin. 76 artists from 26 countries followed the call for performance on/for video. Almost all the participants’ works were shown during a two-day screening that was accompanied by a programme with invited live acts such as Oliver Breitenstein (DE), Mike Edgerton (USA/NL) and Marion Ritzmann (CH). The screening programme was later shown at exhibitions in Hannover and Penzance, UK.

EXTENSION EXTRA

PictureAnnika Dahlsten & Markku LaaksoFor the second edition of MPA-B 2012, the two-year-long Performance Art programme Extension Series goes EXTENSION extra featuring twelve performances by artists coming from eight different countries; four lectures and a three week-long exhibition of the performance project Kanon 1-12 by Henrik Vestergaard Friis.
Extension Series has regularly invited young and established artists for short residencies to develop new work, introduce them to new audiences and showcase experimental documentation. Each series has been accompanied by lectures about different topics on performance art practices today to create discussion, exchange and research on unconventional methods for documenting and approaching actions, experiences and situations that have already vanished. EXTENSION extra is taking place at Grimmuseum and at the Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz and embraces practical and theoretical discourse on Performance Art by showcasing a wide range of performance art approaches and a number of unusual ways of working with the basic elements of Performance: space, time and presence.

LIVE CONFESSION WITH DOLANBAY

Picture(Click on image to enlarge)Live Confession is a conversational game made up of words and exchanges based on the printed journal Drawing Room Confessions, which is inspired by the parlour game played by Marcel Proust, the Surrealists and others in the late nineteenth century. The aim of the game is to reveal the tastes, aspirations and personalities of the player through words and exchanges, rather than through artwork. MPA-B artist DOLANBAY (check his work at Grüntaler9 on May 20th, 27th and 28th) will be guided through the 6 unrehearsed and informal stages of the game in front of a live audience in the relaxed setting of a bar. Drawing out an overall feeling of the way the artist thinks, Live Confession is a genuine and accessible introduction to the creative minds behind the art. The event is a cross between a performance and an interview. It aims to allow people to get to know the artists taking part in the festival in a much more informal environment. As the event is unrehearsed and follows the same basic structure of 6 stages of a game that will be conducted by a host, everything is left to unfold on the night. Additionally there will be no photography or filming at the event in order to maintain the intimacy and immediacy of the evening. The only documentation or lasting record will be an online type-up of the final Proust Questionnaire answers.

The six stages are as follows:
1. The Egoist: a conversation between the player and an individual selected by the player.
2. The Blind Man: a conversation between the player and an individual unknown to the player, and whose interests are not directly in art.
3. Two to Tango: a conversation between the player and someone selected by the host.
4. Ekphrasis: 30seconds to create a worded representation of a visual representation.
5. Timeline: defining moments of the artist’s life, including the art & culture experiences, and historical events, that have defined how he or she thinks and lives.
6. La Madeleine: a fixed questionnaire based on the original Proust Questionnaire.
