ESCAPE – INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL (MAY 11TH TO MAY 19TH)

Picture(Click on image to enlarge)ESCAPE 2012 is the programmatic title of the International Festival planned and organized by Open Space Berlin and BLO- Ateliers. Escape is a geopolitical phenomenon associated with third world countries, or war zones which often leads to terrible humanitarian crisis on the borders of Europe and beyond. The question of whether or not escaping is possible has also been highlighted by the recent nuclear catastrophe in the highly developed country of Japan. With this mind, this theme has been consciously chosen to serve us as a screen and source of inspiration for an International Art Festival with a focus on performing arts, and cultural exchange between Asian, European, US- and South American artists and the local performance scene in Berlin.

PERFORMER STAMMTISCH IN MAY: MEET THE BROOKLYN PERFORMANCE SCENE

Picture(Click on image to enlarge)For a special Performer Stammtisch smack in the middle MPA-B 2012 , we have teamed up with Escape Festival, Open Space and BLO Atelier to present to you the work of Panoply Performance Laboratory (PPL), Anya Liftig and Valery Kuehne from Brooklyn New York. Those of you who missed Anya Liftig’s performance in February will have a chance to see her now in a different performance, joined by PPL, Esther Neff, Brian McCorkle and Valerie Kuehne.

The collective PPL will perform the first episode of their long-form performance art “opera” NATURE FETISH: a human projection of desire for “nature” to be logical, lawful, binary, and existent as such. A riddle, what is there and not there? It is bound together as 0 and 1, assimilating the audience into a system of tones, harassing electrons and exorcising the ghost from the machine.

Many of you have seen Anya at Performer Stammtisch in February. This is a chance to meet her again and watch a different performance by her.

Valerie Kuehne will perform new works for cello and voice.
