SCHÖNHEITSMASCHINE – PERFORMANCE AND INSTALLATION BY BÖSEDIVA (ROBIN DETJE/ELISA DUCA) AND JOCHEN ARBEIT

Picture(click image to enlarge)The rules of theater are broken. The actions presented are disgusting, unpleasant, the performers are too close, there is no storyline, no climax or catharsis. These rules are being broken in a clearly defined visual-art-context, not in a theater space, where breaking the rules has become a conventional provocation of the audience. In an art space, the theatrical gestures and actions take on a direct and raw feel. In a space devoted to the electronic arts, they signify the incursion of something archaic: pre-electronic sweat in the age of digital reproduction. The installation uses digital video recordings of the performance as a mirror, a means of reification. Video mediates processes both electronically and digitally. The framing is predefined, as if by a nervous, twitching painter. The video in this instance is an electronic technology for toying with time. Processes are denatured and abstracted and become surfaces. They become beautiful: Process is now “kunstschön”.  Between these two poles, bösediva is trying for the highest dramatic tension possible: between process – live, “natural”, time-based and stripped of the kitsch of “meaning” – and it’s transformation into a beautiful image. The true interest of the artists is directed at the invisible gap, that buzz in-between process and its representation we are as yet unable to electronically pick up or reproduce.

Further performances:

SHELTER BY ANA RITA MANUEL & THE HEART LIES IN THE ROOTS II BY MARISA BENJAMIM

PictureThe Heart Lies in the Roots IISHELTER (17:00 dur. 30 min)
Ana Rita Manuel
www.anaritamanuel.com
Shelter is a performance that interacts with an object made with color paper weaved on a circular form. This form, when installed in space, works as a sculpture, a painting, even as a landscape; as an object for contemplation. A sequence of actions will trigger the circle into a transformation process where it becomes a shelter. The performer appropriates the circular form in the same way as human kind appropriated nature for their constructions, since Adam left Eden and when arrived on Earth built the first refuge with canopies of trees to spend the night.

Moment II
Pieces of transformed nature are the elements that compose this performance. An ephemeral action to extend an atemporal moment that is cyclic.

ABOUT TATWERK

TATWERK is a young/old spot in Kreuzkölln with a theatre tradition. For four years Tatwerk has been a place for theatre research on Artaud, Grotowski, Performance and Experimental Theatre. Within the global concept of Integral Theatre, Tatwerk has been searching for possibilities to unify different approaches of theatricality. Since March 2012 Tatwerk is taking on a new direction. In order to become a more permeable space for workshops, courses, encounters and exchanges it combines three main fields: Theatre, Dance & Performance. Possible topics to be developed in this project are Body, Action – political, artistic, social or experimental- and Present.

ABOUT ACUD KUNSTVEREIN

LIVE CONFESSION WITH SIMON LEWANDOWSKI

Picture(Click on image to enlarge)Live Confession is a conversational game made up of words and exchanges based on the printed journal Drawing Room Confessions, which is inspired by the parlour game played by Marcel Proust, the Surrealists and others in the late nineteenth century. The aim of the game is to reveal the tastes, aspirations and personalities of the player through words and exchanges, rather than through artwork. MPA-B artist SIMON LEWANDOWSKI (check his work at Art Laboratory Berlin on May 10th and 12th)  will be guided through the 6 unrehearsed and informal stages of the game in front of a live audience in the relaxed setting of a bar. Drawing out an overall feeling of the way the artist thinks, Live Confession is a genuine and accessible introduction to the creative minds behind the art. The event is a cross between a performance and an interview. It aims to allow people to get to know the artists taking part in the festival in a much more informal environment. As the event is unrehearsed and follows the same basic structure of 6 stages of a game that will be conducted by a host, everything is left to unfold on the night. Additionally there will be no photography or filming at the event in order to maintain the intimacy and immediacy of the evening. The only documentation or lasting record will be an online type-up of the final Proust Questionnaire answers.

The six stages are as follows:
1. The Egoist: a conversation between the player and an individual selected by the player.
2. The Blind Man: a conversation between the player and an individual unknown to the player, and whose interests are not directly in art.
3. Two to Tango: a conversation between the player and someone selected by the host.
4. Ekphrasis: 30seconds to create a worded representation of a visual representation.
5. Timeline: defining moments of the artist’s life, including the art & culture experiences, and historical events, that have defined how he or she thinks and lives.
6. La Madeleine: a fixed questionnaire based on the original Proust Questionnaire.
