MPA-B 2012: PERFORMANCES, CONCERTS AND INSTALLATIONS SERIES

Picture(Click on image to enlarge)PERFORMANCES:
Nicolas Puyjalon
Le Mont Analogue
Directly taken from the title of René Daumal’s novel, Nicolas Puyjalon will construct during his 20 minutes performance, through an established space drawn on the floor, a mountain, trying an ascension of it till the top. By following the path of the great explorers, the performance also treats about the aims in those scientific interest, convictions. This mountain, from which can be seen the top, opens an oportunity for a physical exploit, but images also the desire, in this kind of isolated places, tout find another self, or the real one.

Agora Collective
Seven Artists, part of the Agora Collective, will take over the ground floor of l’Atelier for a continuous live performance. Lasting three hours, during three days, the group will bring on the trilogy translating it into formal Aesthetic representations. Highly interactive, this happening will try to open up questions around the Art of the Performance.

Katherina Heil – De-Construction-Re-Construction, work in progress
De-construction-Re-construction is going to be produced over a 5-day period. During this time the artist will record random faces and their related names. Each print is going to be de-constructed and re-constructed and finally archived in a showcase. A log of the work process will also be part of the final installation. In each of the re-construction that make up the work, the aspects of construction (concepts as time, history, being, theory, death, mind, body, matter, logic) collide with the aspects of de-construction (destroying the construction) and re-construction (process of re-creating something more or less non-existent (as eg a moment of experience), the unknown, fragment, source, evidence, hypothesis, result).
The study-like way of working is a metaphor for the constructed self by using the underlying learned rules and procedures of reconstructing.

CONCERT:
Clemence de la Tour du Pin, Daniela Huerta
‘There is no such things as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear.’ John Cage
Daniela Huerta and Clémence de la Tour du Pin will collaborate together presenting a visual & sound piece at L’Atelier on May 3rd at 8pm. They conceive their performance as an organization of sounds and images integrating the physical space, the viewer and spasms of silence as elements of the composition.

Vienne Chan
video, 2012
In an inverse to the white cube, where its emptiness and lack of reference can become a source of uncontrollable-ness, the artist will project her self-portrait interacting with the narrow, black triangular space of L’Atelier – kunst(spiel)raum, exploring the thematic of claustrophobia.

Pauline Payen
L’echec de la pesenteur
Video, 10`45mn, loop, 2009
The loop is centred continuously on a rope making a hole. Bubbles blown through the hole. Emptiness encountering emptiness, as a symbol of vanity. Pop but minimal, poetical but cynical. L’echec de la pesenteur, un envol.

ABOUT L’ATELIER – KUNST(SPIEL)RAUM

L’Atelier – kunst(spiel)raum is an exhibition space in the back yard of Grossbeerenstr. 34 in Mehringdamm, Berlin. 180 m2 over two floors host a program of solo presentations by young artists as well as experimental sound concerts, screenings, workshops and residencies. L’Atelier – kunst(spiel)raum is a project of curator Stefania Angelini (MC) initiated with the goal to act as a professional intermediate for selected young artists and at the same time as an interdisciplinary playroom for the local and international artistic community in Berlin. Six to seven selected artists per year are given the opportunity to present their work in an equipped gallery space, without the usual white cube attitude. The interdisciplinary concept of l’Atelier focuses on creating a platform for new ideas, interaction and networking. Linking different domains, finding alternatives to classical models of exhibition, L’Atelier tries to open up a pre-formatted idea of the art gallery according to the idea of Gesamkunstwerke: total work, total artist. The space is young and will evolve together with its artists.

For the second edition of the Month of the Performance l’Atelier approaches the field of Performance Art and pushes the boundaries through 5 days of programmed artistic interventions. The programme has been thought in 3 parts : – Permanent artistic installations – Performances – Concerts.

ABOUT AGORA

AGORA is a platform that empowers individuals through multi-disciplinary collaborative creation, a gathering space of professionals, driven by the urge to explore new ways of interaction and collaboration in today’s context. We are dedicated on creating intelligent forms of producing, working and living – artistically, socially and economically. As an airport of ideas; making bridges, connecting talented and engaged people. Agora is also an incubator; developing and supporting artistic, social, environmental and economical projects. Much of our space healthily remains in constant flux. Every few days the tables and walls shift to incorporate a new art exhibition, workshop, lecture, performance, yoga class, organic food fair, film screenings and all sorts of cultural projects.
Since our founding in June 2011 we have quickly gathered a community made up of members from over 30 nationalities. Like our resilient home base of Berlin we view the world’s differences and its diversity as powering the potential for constructive growth and advancement.
